An exploration of what our reality is made of, and why "Magick" works.

FUNDAMENTAL  HERMETIC

The first concept that has to be understood in order to progress, is that our reality and the laws therein are not materialistic in nature. Consciousness is not a random byproduct of millions of years of evolution. For lack of a better term, "Consciousness" is the fundamental reality of our existence. All "things" are manifest from it, have their existence in it, and will return to it.

The Source of this Consciousness is impossible to understand with the rational mind. It can only be experienced. It is a futile effort to attempt to define this Source through words. Something must be said, however, in order for us to press on. I will, humbly, attempt to provide a few principles to the reader to accomplish this goal.

The tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal Name.- Lao Tzu

  • This Source can be crudely thought of as Universal Mind.

  • All of our manifest existence is created from and takes place in this Mind.

  • The substance of this Mind is the most fundamental reality of all thoughts, forms, energies and forces.

  • Our mind is the same in nature, though vastly limited in degree.

  • This Mind cannot be understood by our limited minds, it can only be directly experienced.

  • This direct experience is the reunification of the limited self with our Higher Self.

  • This reunification is known by many names, IE: Awakening, Enlightenment, The Divine Marriage, Transcendence, Ego death, Christ Consciousness, Liberation and Etc...

Now, let's talk about Magick.

Magick is the intelligent application of Universal Laws and Principles in order to accomplish a desired outcome. We are able to make impressions, shape, modify and transmute the forces and energies of manifest reality. This works because our minds are of the same nature and substance of the Universal Mind. The tools used in this process are:

  1. Willpower/Intention

  2. Love/Emotion

  3. Intellect/Thought

  4. Form/Action

These four principles will show up time and again in our Journey in different ways. They are the tools of Creation. Some of the many ways they are symbolized are:

  • The Elements: Fire, Water, Air and Earth

  • The Tarot suits: Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles

  • The four Powers of the Magus: To Will, To Dare, To Know and To Keep Silent

  • The Archangels: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and Uriel

  • The Cardinal directions: South, West, East and North

  • The Tetragrammaton: Yod, Heh, Vav and Heh

  • The Court cards: King, Queen, Prince and Princess

When you come across these concepts in your studies, it is crucial that learn to recognize these symbols for what they truly represent. This is one of the Keys that will allow you to begin unlocking doors and entering understandings that were previously inaccessible.

In conclusion I would like to briefly discuss the Esoteric use of Magick, known as "The Great Work". The Great Work is the process of using these principles for one specific purpose: The harmonizing and purifying of ourselves, in order to accomplish the Divine Reunification briefly noted earlier. This is White Magick, selfless and pure. It benefits and contributes to All. By raising ourselves, we help to raise others. I am not here to tell you what you should and should not do, that choice is yours alone and everyone's path looks different. There are no cookie cutter rules for what you should and shouldn't do. My one piece of advice to you is this, whatever you do; if it is in alignment with the goal of becoming more "selfless" and unifying with your Highest Self, is Holy.
